Tao Liu is the partner and design director of Matter Design. He received his B.Arch degree from THU in Taiwan and Master degree in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University GSAPP in the City of New York.

Prior to Matter Design, Mr. Liu served as Associate Principal in KPF New York, a worldwide famous architecture firm, focusing on a wide range of building types including cultural, commercial, institutional and residential scopes.

His practice includes many award-winning projects such as Goldman Sachs London HQ, JR Gate tower Nagoya, Otemachi tower in Tokyo (57th Building Contractors Society Award), AUO Mabu Campus in Xingchu (finalist of Far 8th Eastern Architectural Design Award), Zhejiang University Museum of Art and Archaeology. He also led the design team to win Lanzhou Anning district CBD urban design (1st Prize), National Library Southern Branch in Tainan, Taiwan (3rd Prize) etc.

Mr. Liu is specialized in urban design, façade system, and big scale development projects. Outside of professional practice, he also participates in many academic activities and served as guest critic for Fengchia University, Tunghai University, Shenzhen University and so on.
