Justin Chiu graduated with a B.Sc. Degree with Distinction in Civil Engineering from University of Saskatchewan. He also obtains a B.A. Degree with Distinction in Mathematics from University of Regina. Besides, Mr. Chiu possesses a M.Ed. Degree from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and a Professional Diploma in Architectural Studies from SPACE-University of Hong Kong.
Mr. Chiu is a Registered Professional Engineer in both Ontario and Manitoba of Canada. He had participated in numerous civil engineering and geotechnical projects in Hong Kong, Canada as well as the United States after graduation. His work involved different stages of construction projects, including design calculations, drawing preparations, design and management in the field of construction.
Having worked in North America for a few years, Mr. Chiu returned to Hong Kong and pursued a career in teaching. He was a full-time lecturer in Construction at the Vocational Training Council. Mr. Chiu also worked as a part-time lecturer, teaching undergraduate geotechnical engineering courses for Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and RMIT University, Australia respectively. Since BIM has become a universal tool in the construction industry, Mr. Chiu developed different BIM curricula for a number of higher diploma programs with a team of staff members in the Department of Construction of Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education. It was their dedication and hard work that won them two prestigious awards; namely, (i) a Staff Excellent Award (2012/2013) – “Building Information Modelling Team” by VTC and (ii) the Hong Kong ICT Awards (HKICTA) 2012: Best Professional Development (Other Professional) Silver Award – “Building Information Modelling Education in IVE”.
Mr. Chiu has taken a more active role in the AEC industry all the years. He is a member of the Executive Committee of the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering Hong Kong Branch (CSCEHKB), the Hong Kong Civil and building Information Management (HKCBIM) and Autodesk Industry Advisory Board (AIAB). Apart from that, he has been appointed as a member of the Assessment and Examination Committee of Hong Kong Institute of Building Information Modelling (HKIBIM) and the Assessment Panel Committee of Construction Industry Council for CIC-Certified BIM Manager (CCBM) and BIM Coordinator (CCBC).
